Fibertown Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
All Fibertown Customers are bound by the following Acceptable Use Policy. This document may be updated periodically, and customers should review it regularly to stay
informed of the most recent revisions.
Fibertown Customers shall not:
- Engage in illegal activities or actions that harm Fibertown’s interests. This includes, but is not limited to, the following prohibited activities (this list is non-exhaustive, and other illegal activities not specifically listed are also prohibited):
- Cracking/Hacking – Unauthorized attempts to access accounts or systems that are not your own or that you do not have explicit permission to access are illegal under federal and state laws.
- Child Pornography – Any involvement in the production, distribution, or possession of child pornography is strictly prohibited and will be met with severe consequences.
- Interstate Gambling – Internet-based gambling sites are restricted by Federal Inter-state gambling regulations and may not be hosted.
- Fraud & Pyramid Schemes – These are prohibited under a variety of Federal, State, and Local laws.
- Theft of Services – Unauthorized use of Services not contracted for is considered theft and will be treated as such.
- Harassment – Use of Fibertown’s network to harass, intimidate, or threaten others is strictly prohibited.
- Advocacy of Violence – Any content or actions that advocate for violence against individuals or groups are prohibited.
If unsure about the legality of any activity, please consult legal counsel.
- Threaten the integrity of Fibertown’s network or impact other users.
- Denial of Service (DoS) Attacks – Customers may not initiate or allow DoS attacks on any host on Fibertown’s network or any other network. Customers must not incite others to perform such attacks.
- Blacklisting – Customers must not engage in activities that would cause any part of Fibertown’s IP space to be blacklisted, such as by organizations like Spamhaus or similar. Customers must avoid actions that would cause Internet traffic to be blocked or disrupted due to their activities.
- Server Load Abuse – Customers must not perform activities that overload or degrade Fibertown’s servers, such as mail servers, web servers, or name servers, causing slowness or denial of service to other customers.
- Threaten the Internet or other networks.
- Internet Disruption – No customer shall engage in actions that cause significant disruption or degradation to the operation of the Internet or any network, including Fibertown’s.
- Degrading Network Utility – Customers must not engage in activities that degrade the usefulness of the Internet or Fibertown’s network, such as flooding newsgroups or excessive network usage.
- Spam & Unsolicited Communications.
- Unsolicited Commercial Email (Spam) – Sending unsolicited email, mass mailings, or flooding newsgroups is prohibited. This includes sending spam from Fibertown’s IP space or promoting sites within Fibertown’s IP space through spam.
- Mail Abuse – Mass mailing of unsolicited emails and email forgery, as well as excessive cross-posting or posting unrelated content in newsgroups, is prohibited.
- Spam Relaying – No customer may use third-party mail servers to relay spam. This is considered a denial of service attack on the third party and will be treated as such.
- Pyramid Schemes & Chain Letters – Participation in pyramid schemes, email chain letters, or similar activities is not allowed.
- Mass Mailing Software – Providing software or lists to enable mass unsolicited email is prohibited.
Furthermore, all Fibertown Customers must:
- Maintain and respond to the following email addresses:
- Enforce an AUP – Customers must maintain a policy for their clients that is similar in scope and intent to this Acceptable Use Policy.
- Email Security Requirements – Customers must require proper “From” and/or “Reply-To” headers for email and usenet postings and ensure that their mail servers are secure to prevent use as a “spam amplifier.” This includes implementing restrictions to prevent email relaying (not applicable for Customers who do not maintain mail servers).
Fibertown reserves the right to terminate or interrupt any account or Service, in part or in full, without refund, for violation of this Acceptable Use Policy. In all but the most serious cases, Fibertown will make good faith efforts to resolve issues without Service interruption. In cases of termination or interruption, resolution will be handled on an individual basis, at Fibertown’s sole discretion.
